Cold and flu season is upon us. It sneaks up quickly, doesn’t it? Depending on where you live, you may bet getting your flu shot while still wearing a tank top and shorts. And though it feels odd, get that flu shot. While you’re at it, start acting as if coming down with something is a threat every day. It starts as a whisper that so and so said so and so is sick, and that your friend feels a slight sore throat, but is sure it’s nothing. Then before you know it, you’re full-blown sick. You’re cancelling those Thanksgiving flights and skipping work to rest and recover. Besides getting the flu shot, eating immunity-boosting foods, and staying away from your sick friend, the top thing you can do to prevent getting sick and spreading germs is washing your hands. Don’t follow the habits and hype of some slightly-irresponsible individuals who don’t wash their hands and claim they never get sick (Adrienne Bailon). Cleaning those digits is one of the best ways to stay healthy. Here are times it’s critical to wash your hands.

After petting a dog

Your neighbor’s dog is such a cutie, so you want to pet him. But that cutie probably gets a lot of love. In other words, a lot of people pet him before he found his way to you, and you don’t know if they washed their hands. Not to mention, Fido might have just been rolling in the dirt, feces, or who knows what else.
